A Large Korean Silver Decorated Iron Padlock. 19th. century
Length 14 1/2 ins. (36.8 cms) This rather extraordinary and enormous lock is decorated in silver, brass and copper using what the Japanese call Numone-zogan which is a technique of roughening the surface of the host metal, in this case iron, and hammering the decorating metals into the surface where it becomes permanently fixed.
