(25.3 cms) Although this fine and impressive piece is completely outside our field of expertise it is almost certainly Scandinavian, probably Swedish or Danish. An Interesting Signed & Dated Tin-Glazed Pottery Figure. Probably German or Austrian Secessionist. 1938. Ht. 11 3/8 ins. (28.9 cms) This charming figure with its flowing drapes is very reminiscent of the work of the Viennese Secessionist artists of the 20s and 30s. Unfortunately we have been unable to identify the artist's monogram, I think we may assume that the "38" is 1938. The condition is perfect with no damage and no repairs.

This jar dates from the earliest phase of the Bernard Leach Pottery at St. Ives when Leach was working with Michael Cardew and Shoji Hamada.
