Fine Chinese Neolithic / Bronze Age Twin-Handled Jar - Siwa (c. 1350 BC)

This attractively-shaped pottery jar dates to the Siwa culture (c. 1350 BC). Most of the pottery has been fired to a very attractive orange-red but with interesting variations in colour in places, a result of uneven conditions during the firing process. It has a wide body with a relatively small base and mouth with two loop handles joining the shoulder to the mouth.

This very rare large pottery bowl was made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province.
