This attractive covered jar was made during the 13th / 14th Century (Song / Yuan Dynasty). It is coated inside and out in a greenish Qingbai-type glaze. The cover has a carved pattern, to give it the appearance of a tiled roof. This jar represents a granary and would originally have held a small quantity of grain (we have other examples that still contain traces of 800 year old grain!)...

This blue & white porcelain box was made during the 19th century. It is quite "heavily-potted". Inside the box and the cover are characters etched into the glaze; we have not had these translated. This box is unusually small for its type: 7.5 cm x 6 cm...

This blue & white porcelain box was made during the 19th century. It is of particularly fine quality compared to others of its type we have seen. However, due to the thickness of the body, it has warped during firing, resulting in the cover not fitting totally flat with the box when in place, although it is undoubtedly the original cover...

This porcelain bowl was recovered from a 13th century shipwreck. It is quite "heavily-potted" with an incised decoration and has been coated in a celadon glaze except for the unglazed foot. It was most likely at the Anqi kilns in Fujian province. Sea growths still adhere to the surface; these are easily removed if desired, although we much prefer to leave them.

This pear-shaped porcelain bottle dates to around the Wanli reign (1573-1620) of the Ming Dynasty. It is "heavily-potted" with a floral pattern in underglaze blue. As was often the case with such bottles, the end of the neck has been broken and ground down. The underglaze blue decoration is of very good colour and this would make a particularly attractive small vase for display flowers. Height 11.5 cm.
