Large Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Qijia (c. 2050 - 1700 BC)
This tall and attractively-shaped pottery jar was made around 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Qijia Culture in eastern Gansu province, China dating from approx. 2050 - 1700 BC. It is made from an orange coloured pottery, very pleasing to the eye. The upper body has been finely-burnished and is very smooth to the touch. The surface of the lower body has been decorated with repeated vertical impressions.
Height 35.5 cm (14 inches). There are signs of repair to the mouth, the neck and one handle. Overall though, an exceptional piece of Neolithic pottery in very nice condition.
