Rare Chinese Early Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure
This very rare and interesting pottery model was made in the early part of the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). Apart from the small aperture to the base, it is solid (as opposed to being hollow as are the majority of Tang figures) and relatively highly-fired. Note the detail of the clothing. It has been "cold painted" with a creamy-white pigment on top of which are traces of pink, red and green pigments.
Height 27 cm (10.5 inches). There are no obvious signs of restoration or repair; fine condition.
