Very Rare Chinese Neolithic Large Bowl with Spout - Machang

This very rare large pottery bowl was made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. It is made from a coarse, gritty red pottery. It has a spout and the inner surface is purposely incised with deep grooves.

Diameter 25.5 cm (10 inches), height 16.5 cm (6.5 inches). There is a small repair to the edge of the rim and to the lower body. Overall, a rare and interesting piece in very good condition.
