Archive of 30 Parliamentary Reports on Japan 1856-1912
An Interesting & Rare Collection of 30 Parliamentary and Consular Reports on Japan 1856-1912. These reports were presented to both houses of Parliament by command of Queen Victoria and form a valuable research tool for the study of relations between Great Britain and Japan in the most momentous episode in Japanese history, the Restoration of the Emperor in 1868, which brought to an end the Shogunate and the Edo Period. Apart from the diplomatic and political interest there is valuable information about trade and about various industries e.g. lacquer, tea, paper-making, railways, silk etc. Except where otherwise indicated all the reports are disbound having been taken from bound volumes. In most instances the condition is good, all the maps are in good unused condition. The lithographs in the volume on Tea Production have one plate which is torn on the folds. The list is too long for the website. We will email a complete list to you upon request.
