Rare Chinese Neolithic Red Pottery Amphora - Banpo
Very Rare Chinese Neolithic Red Pottery Amphora - Banpo (c. 4800 - 4300 BC)

This very rare pottery amphora of unusual shape was made over 6,000 years ago during the Banpo phase (c. 4800 - 4300 BC) of the Yangshao culture. It is particularly "heavily-potted" with a wide bulbous body, a short neck and two sturdy loop handles at the waist. It has a burnished surface, very smooth to the touch.

Height 21 cm (8.25 inches). Close examination suggests discreet repairs to the edge of the mouth, but overall condition is exceptional; an extremely rare truely ancient pottery vessel in fine condition.
