Rare Small Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Banshan / Majiayao Culture (c. 2600 - 2300 BC)
This very rare and unusual pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Majiayao Culture, most likely during the Banshan phase (c. 2600 - 2300 BC). It is made from a fairly unrefined clay and has been unusually decorated with a notched rim, applied strip around the neck and a series of spurs around the shouler. There is one small loop handle.
Diameter 8.5 cm, height 6.5 cm. Some surface wear and a fine stabilised crack to the rim; good overall condition.
