Chinese Northern Wei Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure
Chinese Northern Wei Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure (AD 386 - 534)

This interesting painted pottery figure was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). Note the detail to the clothing, head gear and facial features. The hands are held together under the cloak where there is a hole in which originally would have been placed a weapon or banner, now long since lost, presumably having been made of wood and rotted away. Much of the original coloured surface pigments remain. Height 24.5 cm (9.5 inches). Very good condition.
