|A Japanese Woodblock Print by Nakazawa Hiromitsu. Taisho Period 1912-26 12 7/8 x 9 3/4 ins. (32.7 x 24.7 cms) This design is part of a deluxe series of 50 prints published by Bunendo in 1922 and entitled Nihon Taikan (Great Views of Japan) All the blocks and unsold prints were destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This design is the famous scene of Amanohashidate in Kyoto Province. This scene is a sandbar in Miyazu Bay which is traditionally viewed upside down through one's legs! The print is in fine condition, the only minor defects are 3 small strengthening patches on the reverse of the top margin, clearly the print had been attached by a collector to some sort of backing with 3 dabs of paste and careless removal had removed a small part of the paper surface. There is a minor brown stain (foxing) on the bottom right corner.|
