Chinese Song Dynasty Pottery Figure (AD 960 - 1279)
This rare pottery figure was made during the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). It is made from a grey pottery in a two-piece mould, with the two pieces having been luted together at the sides. The details, such as the folds of the clothing and the facial features, were then individually carved into the soft clay prior to it being fired. On the surface are traces of white, pink and yellow pigments.
It is a good size with a height of 28.5 cm (11.25 inches). Fine condition.
This figure is one of three, reported to have come from the same excavation, that we are selling separately.
