Rare Chinese Zhou Dynasty Pottery Animal
This rare pottery animal was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC) or possibly earlier during the Zhou Dynasty (1050 - 221 BC). It is made from a dark grey earthenware and, although not actually solid, it is particularly heavily-potted. It has been individually sculpted and exactly what animal it represents is open to interpretation, although its crudeness has a certain charm to it.
Length 18.5 cm (7.25 inches). Some surface wear and signs of repaired breaks at the neck, left rear and right front legs.
This animal is one of four, all reported to have come from the same excavation, that we are selling separately.
