Small Chinese Northern Zhou Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure of a Warrior (AD 557 - 581)
This very rare and interesting pottery figure was made during the Northern Zhou Dynasty (AD 557 - 581). It is solid pottery and has been "cold painted" in various coloured pigments, quite good traces of which still remain. Note the detail of the clothing and facial features. In the centre of its clasped left hand is a purpose-made hole in which originally would have been placed a miniature weapon made of wood, now long since rotted away and lost. Note the marks on its back left by ancient plant/root growths during its long burial. This figure does not stand very well unaided so would need a stand to be displayed securely in an upright position. Height 16 cm (6.25 inches). There is what looks like a chip to the rear of the base, unless this is how it was made, as the chip is clearly ancient. No repair or restoration. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
