SUMMER SALE PRICE (WAS £650)
Fine Large Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Granary Jar with Bear Feet (206 BC - AD 220)
This handsome and impressive granary jar was made some 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is made from a fine-grained grey pottery that has a silvery sheen in places. Near the base is a purpose-made horizontal opening. There are four sets of raised bands around the body. In places on the surface are the traces of ancient root/plant growths from its long burial.
Perhaps the most interesting feature of this jar are the unusual and detailed moulded bear feet that are much more elaborate than on most other known granary jars of this general type.
Height 38 cm (15 inches), diameter 23 cm (9 inches). This jar is in fine condition with no sign of restoration or repair.
