Small Chinese Warring States / Han Dynasty Pottery Goat
Small Chinese Warring States / Han Dynasty Pottery Animal (Goat)

This unusual pottery model of an animal, that we believe to be a goat, was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220) or possible as early as the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a relatively highly-fired grey / black pottery and has been individually sculpted, as opposed to having been made from a mould. There are faint traces of red pigment on its face. Two legs and the tail have been broken and re-stuck and one ear has been restored. Length 12 cm (4.75 inches).
