Small Chinese Warring States / Han Dynasty Pottery Animal (Ox)
This unusual pottery model of an animal, that we believe may be an ox, was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220) or possible as early as the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a relatively highly-fired dark grey / black pottery and has been individually sculpted, as opposed to having been made from a mould. There are traces of red and black pigments to its face and white pigments to its shoulders and back. Repairs to a leg, neck and the horns. Length 13.5 cm (5.25 inches).
