Fine Chinese Western Han Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Jar
This type of ware, dating to the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8), is often referred to as "proto-porcelain". This jar is of ovoid form and highly-fired. There are bands of incised lines around the upper body and a wide band that spirals down around the body from the waist to the base. On opposing sides at the shoulder are two handles, above which are two scrolling appliqués. Each handle is decorated with an animalistic face. The upper body is coated in a greenish-yellow glaze. Quite a large jar with a height of 25.25 cm (10 inches), diameter 26.5 cm (10.5 inches). There is expected surface wear and insignificant chips to the handle and rim edges, but no repair or restoration; overall a fine example in fine condition. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
