Early German Large Sieburg Stoneware Jug 13/14th. c.

A Good Large German Sieburg Stoneware Jug. 13/14th.century

Ht. 10 3/4 ins. (27.3 cms) This sturdy utilitarian jug is typical of the wares produce in Sieburg with its grooved exterior and thumbed base. The academic preoccupation with decorated wares should not blind the collector to the merits of these plain vessels with their fine shapes and sturdy handles, most of which have not survived except as shards.

The jug is in very good condition with no significant damage except a few chips around the lip. In the foot and lower body are some very fine hair lines which are probably caused during the original firing. The pot has some accretions on the surfaces in and out which are the results of long burial.
