Chinese Western Han Dynasty Pottery Female Figure
Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Female Figure (206 BC - AD 8)

This pottery model of a female attendant or servant was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is quite "heavily-potted" and relatively highly-fired, made from a grey pottery that has been "cold painted" in a creamy-white pigment on top of which have been applied black and red pigments for the detail of the facial features, hair and clothing. Although the figure leans to one side, it does stand securely.

Height 28.75 cm (11.25 inches). A very nice example with minimal loss of pigment. There are signs of a repair to one end of the base, but a very good repair and not at all obvious.
