Khmer 10th Century Glazed Stoneware Jar / Bottle
This jar, or bottle, was made during the first half of the tenth century. It has a stepped shoulder and mouth and incised decoration to the lower body. It is quite "heavily-potted" and coated in a finely-crackled yellowish-green glaze. To the flat base are incised lines which are thought to have been the mark of an individual potter. According to the 1981 Southeast Asian Ceramic Society book "Khmer Ceramics", such marks are found on green glazed wares from the Phnom Kulen and Ban Kruat kilns. The body and mouth have kiln scars, suggesting it has been excavated from a kiln site. Height 8 cm (3.1 inches). Losses to the neck/mouth, a chip to the foot, and it is possible the neck has been broken and re-stuck. This jar is one of a group of similar jars, all clearly from the same excavation site. *** TO ORDER THIS ITEM PLEASE EMAIL US QUOTING OUR STOCK NUMBER (see above) - WE SHALL THEN EMAIL YOU BACK WITH POSTAGE COSTS AND PAYMENT INSTRUCTIONS *** *** FOR FULL DETAILS OF OUR GUARANTEE AND PAYMENT OPTIONS, PLEASE CLICK ON "Buying from us - All you need to know" ON OUR HOME PAGE *** |
