Set of Four Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Food Containers with Oxford TL Test (comprising two dings and two round boxes) 206 BC - AD 220

These fine lidded pottery vessels were made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220 and have all come from the same excavation. They are made from a fine-grained grey pottery and quite highly-fired, all having a distinct ring when tapped. Two of the vessels are of the "ding" type with sturdy handles and three feet, the other two are round boxes of a simple yet very pleasing design.

We have had one of these vessels, a ding, tested by Oxford Authentications, the only testers of ancient pottery accepted by all major dealers, auction houses and museums worldwide, and the Thermoluminescence Analysis Report that will accompany these vessels is shown: this confirms the date of manufacture as "between 1,500 and 2,400 years ago".

The diameter of each ding is approximately 25 cm (10 inches), height 19.5 cm (7.5 inches). The diameter of each box is 20.5 cm (8 inches), height 15 cm (6 inches). All four items are in exceptional condition with no sign of restoration or repair.
