Chinese Tang Dynasty Painted Pottery Foreigner Groom Figure
This rare pottery model of a foreign groom was made during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618 - 906). Note the attention to detail of the clothing, the hairstyle and the facial features. Unlike the majority of Tang Dynasty pottery figures, this figure is solid (as opposed to being hollow). It is made from a buff-coloured pottery that has been coated in a base coat of white pigment with red and black pigments on top to pick out the facial details and the hair.
Height 24 cm (9.5 inches). There is the expected surface wear/loss of pigment, and there are signs of repair to the "ring" around the figure's neck. Overall, a very nice and unusual figure in good condition.
