Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Dish - Phoenix
This porcelain dish was made during the mid to late 16th century (c. 1560 - 1590). The underglaze blue decoration features a phoenix flying with outstretched wings flying amongst clouds. The underside is more simply decorated with two blue lines surrounding the rim and base, and a seal mark.
The phoenix is said to appear in times of prosperity and peace.
Diameter 15 cm (6 inches). There is minor "fritting" to the glaze at the rim edge and an ancient hairline but no repair or restoration.
