Pair of Chinese Ming Dynasty Painted Pottery Tiles - Lotus Blossoms
This pair of attractive pottery tiles was made during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). They are made from a dense, quiet highly-fired grey pottery and feature lotus blossoms in high relief. The tiles have been "cold painted" in various brightly-coloured pigments, very good traces of which still remain.
The total length of both tiles when placed together is 50 cm (19.75 inches), each tile having a length of 25 cm (9.75 inches), height 12.5 cm (5 inches). As is more often than not the case with such tiles, there are chips and losses to the edges / fragile ends of the the petals.
