Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Longquan Celadon Dragon Jarlet

This small moulded jar was made during the 13th - 14th century at one of the Longquan kilns in Zhejiang province. It is heavily-potted and has been made in two halves, upper and lower, that have been luted together around the waist. It is coated in a thick and heavily-crackled celadon glaze. Surrounding the upper body is a moulded dragon and around the lower body is a scrolling cloud pattern although these designs are not easy to see due to the thickness and crackle of the glaze.. The concave base remains unglazed revealing the pale grey porcelaneous body.

Diameter 8.25 cm. Good condition with no repair or restoration.

Similar examples are illustrated in the Southeast Asian Ceramics Society book "Chinese Celadons".
