Vietnamese 15th Century Blue & White Parrot & Peach Bowl
This unusual object comprises a joined shallow bowl and a parrot, the bowl in the form of a peach, the edge of which is held in the beak of a parrot. It was made during the mid 15th century. Its function was possibly that of a container for cosmetics. The detail and feathers of the parrot are outlined in underglaze blue. It is coated in a finely-crackled glaze. Maximum diameter 9.25 cm (3.5 inches). There is a chip to the very end of the parrot's tail, and what appears to be a firing fault (?) where a small section below the inner rim has "lifted" slightly; otherwise good condition.
This is from a private Cambodian collection of nice quality Vietnamese 15th century blue & white ceramics we have recently acquired.
