Vietnamese 15th Century Blue & White Octagonal Jar
This eight-sided blue & white jar was made during the 15th century. It is quite "heavily-potted" and decorated in underglaze blue with alternating geometric and floral patterns. The glaze is finely crackled and has stained a little in places, a result of its long burial. Some of the glaze crackles appear to have penetrated the body. The flat base remains unglazed. Interestingly there is a kiln scar to the glaze at the shoulder and the top of the jar has sunk during firing, yet this jar was excavated in Cambodia so was apparently still considered worth keeping and exporting.
Height 8 cm (3 inches). Notwithstanding its manufacturing faults, it is good condition with no repair or restoration.
