Pair Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Ear Cups
These pottery cups, often known as "ear" cups, were made during the Han Dynasty. They are relatively highly-fired with the inner surfaces "cold painted" in red pigment. Presumably they were original part of a larger set (see for example our Han tray & cup set, stock number M8965). These are larger than most examples we have seen, with a length of 16.5 cm (6.5 inches). The edge of one is slightly "nibbled" whereas the edge of the other has a chip and the finest of hairline cracks at the end of one of the "handles, almost impossible to see.
