Fine Chinese Yuan Dynasty Jun Bowl (with purple splash)
This exceptional stoneware Junyao bowl was made during the Yuan Dynasty (AD 1279 - 1368). Both inner and outer surfaces are coated in a thick Jun glaze that falls short of the "heavily-potted" foot with slightly splayed-out sides, revealing the pale creamy-brown body. The glaze is finely crackled with its colour varying depending on the thickness of the glaze, from a very attractive pale blue where the glaze it at its thickest to a paler green around the rim and toward the underside base where the glaze is thinner. To the inner surface is a very nice purple "splash", much prized by collectors of such wares. There are "pin holes" in the glaze in places, particularly where it is at its thickest. On the surface are "calcified" burial deposits. These are easily removed although we have left the bowl uncleaned so the eventual purchaser can decide whether or not to remove these deposits.
A good size with a diameter of 19 cm (7.5 inches). This superb bowl is in fine condition with no restoration or repair.
