Fine Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Covered Box - Kangxi (1662 - 1722)
This attractive and fine quality blue & white porcelain covered box was made during the Kangxi reign (1662 - 1722) of the Qing Dynasty. Both cover and box are skillfully decorated in underglaze blue, the pattern featuring the prunus, a symbol of life.
It is large example of its type with a diameter of 10.5 cm (4 inches). This box has been excavated from a shipwreck and the glaze to the inner surface is more glossy to the inner surface than the outer surface. There is the smallest of chips to the inner rim of the cover. There is no repair or restoration; a fine example.
