Fine Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Covered Box - Kangxi (1662 - 1722)
This attractive and fine quality blue & white porcelain covered box was made during the Kangxi reign (1662 - 1722) of the Qing Dynasty. Both cover and box are skillfully and elaborately decorated in underglaze blue featuring a scrolling chrysanthemum pattern, the chrysanthemum being an emblem of friendship. The glaze on the underside of the cover is a little crackled in places.
It is large example of its type with a diameter of 10.25 cm (4 inches). This box has been excavated from a shipwreck yet is in fine condition with no repair or restoration; a very nice example.
