Large Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Bowl - 16th Century
This unusual blue & white porcelain bowl was made during the mid to late 16th century c.1560-1580. The outer surface is minimally decorated with just a geometric band around the foot wall whereas the inner surface is particularly elaborately decorated. In the centre is a standing bird, presumably a heron, together with various plants and blossoms. The surrounding wall is decorated with a pattern featuring lotus leaf panels and tassels. It has the usual minor "fritting" of the glaze at the rim.
Diameter 18 cm (7 inches). There is a hairline to the wall and a small chip to the rim but there is no repair or restoration.
For a similar, but larger example Ming bowl with the same pattern, see also our item with stock number M0915.
