Fine Chinese Northern Wei Dynasty Painted Pottery Figure
This painted pottery figure was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). Note the detail to the clothing and head gear. In both hands are purpose-made holes in which originally would have been placed miniature weapons or banners, now long since lost, presumably having been made of wood and rotted away.Much of the original coloured surface pigments remain.
Height 23 cm (9 inches). No restoration or repair; an exceptional example in fine condition.
