| An abaca (banana plant fiber) ikat bag decorated with mother-of-pearl platelets from the Bagobo people of south central Mindanao, Philippines circa the 1950s. Made of dyed ikatted abaca, the bag is embellished with mother-of-pearl disks in geometric patterns with a central highly stylized human design. The handle is also decorated with mother-of-pearl disks and the sides with undyed abaca strands. A brass bell hangs on one side. Inside the bag is coconut tree bark serving as lining. Measuring 8.5 x 8 inches with the handle 31 inches long, the bag is in very good to excellent condition. | ||
