Very rare brass and enamel pin signed "MACCHIARINI", c.1940's. Peter Macchiarini(deceased) was a very famous San Francisco modernist jewelry designer and his works are extremely desirable. The provenance of this piece has been identified by his son, Dan Macchiarini. He states that it was a private commission by someone wanting a clown face. This turned out to be a joint venture between Peter and his then student, Virginia De Haas, whom he later married. Dan has stated that this is an extremely rare and early piece. Also, that this is not a piece of his mother's creation. Charming and witty, the pin shows a red and royal blue enamel clown face with a large cut out mouth. The condition including the enamel, is EXCELLENT. It is of good size measuring 1 13/16" in diameter. A great and rare work by a master showing a wonderful sense of humor.
