Large Waterbury OG clock CA 1860 30 inches tall
The epitome of "Americana", the popular OG design was made by a number of New England clock makers throughout the 19th Century. Its simple good looks, easy-to-read face and no-nonsense gong strike on the hour made it a household favorite. Although there are quite a few antique OGs still being bought and sold, few can compare with this exceptional Waterbury, made in Connecticut. It has an eight-day movement (NOT thirty-hour), a coil (gong) strike at each hour, an original, brilliant, mahogany veneered case, original reverse-painted American eagle bottom glass panel and original painted metal dial.It even has its original advertising paper affixed to the inside back. The original weight-driven movement has been recently gone through by our clock maker and is in excellent working order. Most OGs you will encounter don't run, are missing veneer, have been badly refinished, have replacement dials and other parts, and invariably lost their advertising paper. This one has everything original and in beautiful un-restored condition. Its only flaws are age-related, some minor paint wear on the dial and some paint loss on the reverse-painted eagle tablet. I hate to belabor the adjective "original", but for clock purists, this one is as correct as they get! This OG is a large clock, measuring 30" tall, 16-1/2" wide and 4" deep. It operates best sitting on a surface and secured to a wall. It can be hung on a wall as well. It will be carefully packed with the weights, pendulum bob and winder packed separately.
