This rare jug bears the mark of Ellsmore and Forster which was used between 1850 and 1871. Due to the use of the pre-Victorian jug form, this piece can be dated to the earlier part of the mark's production period. The jug's name is based on its many hand-colored transfers with clear luster highlights depicting actors, dancers and clowns along with vignettes of plays, acts and theatrical characters of the day. The jug is in very good condition with the exception of honest wear to the dark overglaze and body of the rim consistent with its age. The height is 9 inches or 23 cm, the extreme diameter is 8 inches or 20.5 cm.

This beautiful pair of French porcelain vases was made between 1850-1900 in Louis XVI, late 18thC style. They are marked under the bases with a faux 18thC black Sevres mark with interlaced "L's" encircling the letters, "PP". The bodies and feet are cast in one piece. The ground color of the bodies is rose pompadour, named for Madame Pompadour. Each hand painted reserve features a vignette of a courting couple in a garden with a cherub. The surrounding ornamentation has a caryatid's head, a jeweled border and laurel garlands, all in two shades of coin gilding. The versos are decorated with masterfully painted fruit and flower groups. The bases are gilt bronze. The pair may have originally had lids, but there is no indication in the form of visible wear that this pair had them. The pair is in very good condition with light wear to the gilding consistent with their age. The vases measure 17 1/2 inches or 40.5 cm in height.

Imagine the times this charger has survived! It came to America with a family who left Nazi Germany in 1938. From photos of their home's baronial interior, it was clear they collected early German pewter and ceramics. This exotic motif was based on the Chinese blue & white porcelains which entered the Netherlands in the 17th century. It was the affordable homegrown exotic ware of its day. Rim roughness, as typical, one rim hairline crack and moderate footing losses. Diameter - 14"
