Very fine Art Nouveau water or wine pitcher made by WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik) in Germany circa 1900. A fully cast, detailed figure of a mermaid forms the undulating, reticulated handle. Her tail fins merge with robust, sweeping florals and vines in relief upon the tall form with its upward-curving pour lip. An extraordinary example of romanticized Art Nouveau by this highly regarded workshop. A similar example is illustrated in the firm's well-known 1906 catalogue, page 138. Marks beneath. 14 3/4" H.
