A fine Indian dark hardwood qu’ran stand inlaid in ivory with a stylised floral design and meander. Length (closed): 46 cm. 19th cent.

Probably Hoshiapur work. Excellent condition without losses to inlay. One of the carrying rings within the arched spandrels is missing.

An interesting Kobe doll figure of a grotesque Buddhist priest seated on a box with a mokugyo, the box with a long-tongued mask on the front face. When the handle on the side is turned the long neck of the priest/ghost is extended and the tongue of the mask retracts. Dimensions: 17 cm. x 5.8 cm. x 8.8 cm. Early 20th cent.

The two beaters which should be held in the figure’s hands are both missing and the arms hang limp. ...click for details

A small square Japanese tsuishu lacquer box carved in kamakurabori with a sage mounted on a lion-dog. Dimensions: 7.5 cm. 19th cent. or earlier.

Small chips to edges. Green baize pads have been added to the base and there is a hardened patch of some liquid or adhesive on the base also. No other faults.

A fine Japanese silver-inlaid bronze infant Buddha with a serene expression standing with one arm upraised, the other pointing downwards, on a lotus base. Height: 14.5 cm. Dated 1845.

The index finger of the upraised hand is missing, the downward pointing finger also apparently lacking. There is a beautifully written inscription on the base (in Chinese characters) which reads as follows: Siddhārtha, crown prince. B ...click for details

A rare pair of Dutch decorated Chinese porcelain slop bowls enamelled with scenes of a lady dancing and a gentleman playing a wind instrument, while a black servant stands holding a bowl of fruit; in the background a distant town with a windmill, this vignette repeated on the interior. Diameter: 14.8 cm. c. 1735-45.

One with an indistinct 3 cm. hairline, the other with a 4cm. hairline with associated chip. ...click for details
