A Westerwald stoneware tankard with bulbous body incised and decorated in bright cobalt, the reeded neck decorated in manganese. The cartouche, with sunburst surround, containing the letters GR between a crown and angel, and with the figure 4 under the handle. Height: 7 in. mid-18th cent. There is a fine crack in the base and another (evidently a production flaw) to the edge of the foot. No other faults. |
