An interesting pair of watercolours of a Turk and a wild man or anchorite reading his holy book and wearing a lionskin, with an inscription in Fraktur (presumably German). Dimensions: 6 3/8 x 5 ½ in. each; the whole: 11 ¼ x 17 ¼ in. Probably early 19th cent.
These watercolours seem to have been drawn from a sketchbook, probably illustrating the habits and customs of the Middle East. They are in fine condition and were purchased in the 1960s from The Parker Gallery, Albemarle St., London W1.
