Kaga inlay and takazogan ( relief) techniques with mixed metals of silver, copper and gold. The vases, with large design of birds of Paradise, with female in flight on one vase and male perched on branch on the other vase, both among flowering gourd vines; and the reverse of each vase with morning glory together with smaller bird in flight...

Very well-carved figure of one of the seven lucky gods, highlighted in incised, stenciled and painted fashion, and holding his gnarled staff and fan, with signature on base. Excellent condition. 19th/ 20th Century Meiji Period. Measurements: 7 1/2" high. Provenance: Acquired in the 1960s.

This lamp was converted from a vase and has deep relief decoration with a dragon wrapping around the upper body, and a phoenix seated on rock formation on the lower half of the vase, paired together with a quail and lotus paddy. Sturdy bronze body with intricate carving. Meiji Period. Measurements: Stands 14 1/2" high. Provenance: Acquired in the 1960s.

Japanese display or sutra stand, a refined piece, elevated on shaped scrolls, in colors of persimmon red, light black and dark beige, using an exceptional technique of applying various colors in drips and patches, together with tiny crushed pieces of mother-of-pearl - resulting in a mosaic effect. The piece appears to have been made for an establishment and bears an inscription on the base...

This two piece cast bronze ship, with good traces of old red lacquer, with large sail showing the character for treasure, is very well modeled and decorated with detailed incised motifs including a kirin flanked by a dragon and a phoenix, together with a number of attributes that bring good luck...

An antique shop sign carved with identical kanji letters on both sides - meaning "exchange" (ryo-gae-ya) - for a banker? Late 19th century Meiji. An example of Japanese mingei. Measurements: H 23", W at widest point 17".

Very handsome cylindrical box with lid, black lacquer exterior and red lacquer interior, resting on four supports ending in legs. The body with horizontal ribs, metal fittings etched with hexagons. Similar boxes are known as kai-oke and were used to store the shells for kai-awase, the "shell matching game." Late 19th/early 20th century Meiji. Some wear and tear. Measurements: H 16 3/4", D 14."

Rare Japanese textile, a fukusa, finely embroidered in colors and shades of gold, white, green, beige and brown, on black silk ground. Very finely executed in couched (overlay) gold metallic thread and satin stitch. The fukusa shows on cloud and wave ground a sennin astride a long-tailed tortoise below a crane in flight. Crane and tortoise symbolize longevity in Japanese mythology...
