| Here is a lovely vintage set of 9 collectible Stephen Barlow buttons with engraved Ships done in his distinctive signature scrimshaw style. The buttons are set in metal bases. The details are so exact you can see the rigging, sails, and even the waves. Scrimshaw, an ancient technique, is the art of etching into ivory or bone and then highlighting the grooves with ink. The method here is the same only the material is a simulated Ivory. You would have trouble telling the difference though - the quality is that good! Six buttons measure 1/2" in diameter -three for each jacket cuff- and the three larger buttons measure 3/4" in diameter for the jacket front. There is a metal sewing loop on the back of each button. The buttons have never been removed from their box and are still stitched in. Excellent original condition! Would make a great gift for the boat lover or sailor in your life! | ||
