This is a rare and fine authentic Kanban or shop sign for a wig maker. Of the Edo period, these shop signs are often copied. This one is authentic with original patina and comes from the former collection of the famous collector/dealer Alice Boney. It is 17 inches tall with original paint and patina. It was acquired by Ms. Boney when she resided in Japan in the 1950's. Many of her items are now in American museums.
