A classic Mingei Tonkotsu, simply carved to hold tobacco. The Muso-zutzu or pipe case is suspended on a black silk cord with a fluted glass ojime and is also quietly understated in a brown woven style. Both in very good condition with the usual wear from use and age. Late 19th Century.

A fine, large, blue and white porcelain charger with scalloped rim. The central scene depicting a pine, palms and a reserve with chrysanthemums and a bough of cherry blossoms. The scene is partially surrounded with a blue field, suggesting a textile pattern.The center of the foot shows the familiar six point sager marks seen on Imari of the period. Shows slight wear and abrasion from use and age. There is a small chip in the scalloped rim and a short hairline crack as well, (please see photos)...

The fine, unblemished honey patina on this censer was favored by the Japanese bronze artist during the late 19th and early 20th C. The unusual shape is enhanced by the two well executed lions faces on the shoulder. The body is circled by eight medallions depicting scenes from the daily life of the noble class. A very attractive Japanese, Golden Era cloisonne cigarette case with a blue, writhing dragon against a white field. The interior is enameled in blue to create a complete statement. The brass or bronze case was originally silvered but that has worn away on the contact surfaces. While there is only minor cracking and mini chips from use, it seems that moisture has entered at the seams and created some discoloration at the edges.
