CLARKE & CLARKE Art + Artifacts
|From the Zande People of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Sudan, a desirable mask thought to be used by the Mani Society and perhaps at funeral ceremonies. Thee somewhat round shape with large eyes and mouth along with concave facial plane and C shaped ears conform to Zande tradition. The finish has nice patina with the coloring and traditional spots worn with use and age. The interior reflects adze carving and the holes surrounding the rim are of various sizes. The wood is very dry and there is a small crack in the jaw along with rim losses at the crown, as shown in the attached photos. Size 10.5" x 7". Mid 20th C.|
