| Of the seemingly endless variety of Senufo masks this is one of the most elegant and graceful. The refined hairstyle, down cast eyes and tapered, heart shaped face are characteristic of Senufo masks as are the stylized "legs" extending down on both side of the face, The really unusual feature of this mask is the long graceful interpretation of a hornbill beak. Representations of hornbill are often found in not only among the Senufo, but their neighbors the Ligby and Djimini. In this case the very refined nature of the mask sets it apart. With good patina and signs of extensive wear from use and age, the only losses occur at the rim. There is a tight vertical crack on the left facing side to be noted in the photos. With a metal museum style stand. Mid 20th C. Size 7" x 18.5". | |||||||||||||||
