A Mandaling Batak Shamans Biang Biang

A Mandaling Batak Lion or Dog figure is an oracular device used by Shaman. Standing on a raised, rectangular base, with ears up and mouth open. The body decorated with a scalloped pattern and incised with a triangular circular motif on all four hips and around the base. There is an age crack in the lower right side of the base. The plug in the chest which contained magic substance that empowered the figure is firmly in place. Fine aged light brown patina and encrusted ritual material.First half of the 20th C.
